* Anal Gland Expression: We feel that anal gland expression is a bad idea as part of a pet grooming procedure and should be left to your veterinarian like anything internal is best left to the ones with a veterinary degree.
* Ear Hair Plucking: Generally, the small fluffy dogs are the ones that get their ears plucked - the Shih Tzu’s, Lhasa Apsos, Schnauzers, Maltese, even the larger Cocker Spaniel. You would be amazed at how much hair can be growing in in the ear canal. Sometimes it’s a wonder they can even hear! Years ago, a proper groom always included an ear plucking for these types of breeds. Now-days plucking is not done as regularly, and is even discouraged by many. Most dogs do not need their ears plucked, but some do. It takes a knowledgeable groomer to know when it is necessary and when it is not. Bokhara groomers only plucks ear hair if requested by the pet owner, or if the groomer feels the ear hair should be plucked to help prevent wax and debris build ups which can cause ear infections by moisture getting stuck inside the ear canal and causing mostly yeast infected ears. Our groomers do not normally pluck ear hair unless specifically requested by the owner, but they will go ahead and pluck out the hair on a dog they feel has, or may be prone to excessive amounts of ear hair.

Why might my dog need a shampoo & dry before coming home from a boarding stay? Boarded pets do not stay as clean as they do at home for several reasons. Although our staff is vigilant in scooping and cleaning the boarding patios, dogs may soil their feet and coat. Longer coated breeds will become more soiled than shorter coats but to ensure a happy and sweet smelling homecoming we provide a very nominally charged shampoo & dry prior to going home. Our policy is to not send smelly pets home, thus when a need is determined we will give the departing pet a shampoo & dry (at a very reasonable price). This is not a grooming procedure - just making sure your pet goes home smelling fresh.
